Teaching and Classroom Management Philosophy.
As a teacher I want to help students discover the beauty and awe in mathematics. Teaching through multiple instructional strategies will help me engage and meet the needs of my students. I will also help them build 21st century skills of critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, communication, and creativity through project-based learning. This will also help students learn to communicate mathematical concepts clearly and concisely. Through getting to know each student individually, I hope to open their eyes and minds to appreciate math and expand their vision of the world.
My classroom management philosophy is based on Jim Fay and David Funk's Love and Logic and Ray Smith and Grace Dearborn's Conscience Discipline. In my classroom, I will focus on building positive relationships with students in which thinking and control is shared as much as possible to create an environment where students feel safe and respected. I will implement logical consequences with empathy that helps students take responsibility for their actions. I will assume the best in all of my students and help them build a positive self-concept by helping them learn appropriate behaviors. Treating one another with respect and dignity will be one of the most important expectations in my classroom. Making sure everyone is treated with respect will create a positive environment in which learning can happen. My goal is to meet students where they are and help them reach their highest potential. Attached is my classroom management plan and philosophy. It also includes an outline for the first five days of school in my classroom, in which I focus on building relationships with students and creating an environment centered around respect.

Homework Philosophy.
Practice is essential for students to gain deeper understanding of mathematics; therefore, homework is expected to be completed regularly. I will be mindful when assigning and creating assignments that benefit the students and does not waste their time because I know they have other coursework. I will do my best to limit homework to 20 to 30 minute assignments. In return, I expect students to complete their homework by the assigned due date. Attached is the homework philosophy and policy that I will give to students at the beginning of the school year. It outlines in more detail the procedures and expectations for homework.
