My name is Josephine Langwald, and I am pursing a bachelor's degree in Math Education from the University of Mary. Since I was in first grade, I knew I wanted to become a teacher. Growing up, I spent a lot of time with my grandma who loved to practice reading and arithmetic with her grandchildren. I think this is where my love for learning began. Math was always my favorite class in school, and when I was in middle school, I decided that I wanted to teach math.
I am originally from Sidney, Montana, where my dad farms and my mom works from home. My sister and I currently live in Lincoln, North Dakota with our two dogs, Butter and Samara. During the summer I spend as much time as possible with them outside. I also frequently travel back to Sidney with them to visit my brother and his family. My brother, Rudy, and his wife, Brittany, have three kids, Finnley, Vivienne, and Tobias with whom I love playing outside with the dogs. I also enjoy playing piano and guitar in my free time when I am at home. During most of my time in college I worked as a barista at Caribou Coffee. After six months, I was promoted to shift leader. In that position I trained new employees and lead my coworkers as a team toward the specific goal of that shift. This leadership position gave me valuable experience in teaching people new skills and encouraging them through positive reinforcement. For the last year I have worked at Maple View Memory Care which is an assisted living facility for people with Alzheimer's and other forms of Dementia. Through working with these residents, I have learned the immense value in treating people with dignity and respect, especially when they get to their most vulnerable state in life. |
